Welcome to the World’s Friendliest Police! That may sound kind of corny to you but that’s our attitude and mission for our community.
Since taking the reigns of the department on August 1st of 2006, my mission has been to change the attitude of the officers and the perception of the department by the public we serve. That began with making our tag line “The Worlds Friendliest Police”. The officers look at this service mark and see it as a challenge, a goal to aspire to. The public looks at it and says,” I wonder if they are?” Either way the public gets the benefit of the elevated perception.
We provide service from a staff of dedicated professional full time officers and a tremendous support system called the Reserve Program. Our specialty is providing a full investigative service from the moment a complaint is taken all the way through the court process. Each full time staff officer is empowered to run their own investigations and have demonstrated time and time again their expertise in this area.
The Reserve Program is a big plus for our department as it pairs specially trained citizen police officers with our regular staff to add an extra level of service and safety that is so critical to our operation. They work in the patrol cars as their personal schedules permit and have been very effective at adding value to our service through their dedication and public spiritedness.
We are further supported through a cooperative service arrangement with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department and the Michigan State Police. Our relationship with them provide us with the finest in investigative services, forensic laboratory services, and a statewide network of resources available only to cooperative departments.
We welcome the opportunity to serve you. We are available simply by calling 911. All calls for police service in Jackson County have to go through the 911 operator. This is a safety and efficiency measure that is critical to our operation.
Investigative or administrative information may be given to us by calling our department phone at 517-596-2300 or by faxing documents to us at 517-596-2355.
